Canine and cat pancreatitis -Part 1
.
canine pancreatic lipase immunoreactivity (PLI) detection is the most sensitive and specific serum detection method available for dogs. Studies have reported different sensitivity (21–78%) and specificity (80–100%), but as disease severity increases or decreases (> 200 μg/L Spec cPL) or increases (> 400 μg/L Spec cPL) are critical values for sensitivity and specificity, respectively. The sensitivity of this test in chronic pancreatitis is considered to be lower than that of acute disease. SNAP cPL that provides only semiquantitative results (normal or abnormal) may have special applications in the emergency room due to its rapid reading.
