Maresca: Caicedo is one of the best defensive midfielders in the world, satisfied with the victory over Tottenham without conceding a goal

In the 10th round of the Premier League early this morning, Chelsea defeated Tottenham 1-0 away from home. After the game, Chelsea coach Maresca accepted an interview with Sky Sports.

What is your evaluation of this victory?

Yes, this is definitely a great game. Spurs looked really good and we needed that performance to win. I think we need to be brave both with and without the ball. We did a good job without the ball and we created a lot of chances with the ball. We are very happy, both for ourselves and the fans, that this is an important derby and we will move forward.

Chelsea's performance is not stable yet. Why is this?

When I don’t know, I prefer to frankly say “I don’t know.” We need to become more consistent to get closer to the top.

Caicedo had 1 assist in this game. How do you evaluate his performance?

He is top notch. Like Rodri, he is one of the best defensive midfielders in the world.

In this game, Chelsea shot 15 times, 9 of which were on target, and finally won by 1 goal.

In English football, 1-0 does not mean that the game is over. We could have scored one or two more goals and that would have made it easier for us. But we are very satisfied with being able to beat Tottenham and keep a clean sheet.

Wesley Fofana returned to Chelsea's starting lineup in this game

Wesley is one of the top defenders in our team. Before this game, we had scored the most goals in the Premier League this season, but the problem is that we conceded too many goals. Therefore, we need a more solid defense.

There was talk of a crisis after Chelsea's defeat to Sunderland last weekend

That was the first thing I said to the players. We went from 11th to 4th and it was a question of balance. We have only lost one of our last seven games, against Sunderland, but there are people saying that everything has gone wrong for us. I think we are on the right path.
