I once bought my own goals! Ass: A 33-year-old England player has been suspended for three and a half years for illegal betting
According to the Ass newspaper, an English player was suspended from the FA for eight years for illegal betting. He had bet on his team and himself.
The player is 33-year-old England striker Ryan Bowman, who has played in England's third- and fourth-tier leagues and the Scottish top-tier leagues. The FA banned him for three and a half years because he committed multiple violations related to illegal sports betting.
Bowman has made a total of 6397 bets since 2015, with 87 bets directly involving his team, including 8 involving the town of Shrewsbury, where he played for between 2021 and 2023. He even played the whole game himself in three of these games.
Bowman made 2,600 bets between 2020 and 2021. By 2023, this number has increased to 3,100 times. In addition, it was discovered that he had bet on his own and he would score goals.
In July 2024, Cheltenham Town signed him knowing he was under investigation. On January 1, he played his last game and was terminated by the club shortly afterwards, and he began to be suspended in March.
This scandal led him to join the ranks of players who were punished for illegal betting, including Trippier, Tonali, Sturridge, Ivan Tony and others.
