Microsoft laid off more than 300 more people, 6,000 people were laid off last month

Microsoft's last round of layoffs mainly affected software engineers, and the positions involved in this round of layoffs have not been disclosed. As of June 2024, Microsoft had about 228,000 full-time employees, of which 55% worked in the United States.

A company spokesman said the round of layoffs was a further adjustment after the announcement of the cuts last month. He added: “We will continue to promote the necessary organizational change to ensure the company’s favorable positioning in dynamic markets.”

The wave of artificial intelligence is reshaping the employment structure of the technology industry. On the one hand, enterprises are accelerating the layout of AI-related positions, and on the other hand, they are also using AI technology to reduce labor costs.

After Microsoft laid off 6,000 employees last month, it cut more than 300 more employees on Monday (June 2), reflecting that technology companies are continuously reducing labor costs while investing heavily in artificial intelligence (AI).

Companies such as Microsoft, Meta, etc. say that AI-assisted programming tools have significantly improved development efficiency. Cloud software giant Salesforce also said last week that it can complete the same work with less manpower after adopting AI.
